What's Mission?
A group of workshop participants attending a mission conference eyed each other nervously from across the table where they were seated. Conversation was awkward because the group had so little in common—in ideology, culture, and dress. But once they began talking about a topic of passionate, mutual interest—mission!—they became an instant family. It works for churches too. Another name for mission is purpose. No matter how diverse they are as individuals, a group of people who come together around the same purpose (mission) can work miracles—whether it’s a football team vying for a national championship, or a group of engineers putting people into space, or a congregation anxious to do something great for God. (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the idiom “in the loop” as “a group of people who know about or have influence . . . over something”. It comes from 1960’s military terminology for the feedback loop established between the officers passing on orders and the soldiers who received them and returned information and feedback. Today, we recognise it as a way of saying that a person has been kept informed of what is going on in a specific circle or group; they have been kept “in the loop”. The Sandy Lake Academy school community extends beyond the brick and mortar walls of our building, and we are supported by parents, families, churches, and community members throughout the Maritimes and across Canada. By creating our newsletter, and by extension this website, we aim to keep all those who give their time, energy, and prayers In the Loop.
